Clear coat is hazy after 1000 grit

Clear coat looks dull or hazy after sanding with 1000 grit.

Answer

A 1000 grit haze is normal before refinement. Continue with 1200, 1500, 2000, and 3000 grit, then polish after the sanding marks are evenly refined.

Why it happens
1000 grit leaves a fine but still visible sanding pattern that needs finer grits before polishing.
Recommended grit
Refine 1000 grit marks with 1200, 1500, 2000, and 3000 before polishing.
Wet or dry
Use wet sanding with clean water and light pressure when the clear coat is fully cured and safe to wet sand.
Success check
The haze is uniform and fine after 3000 grit, with no isolated 1000 grit scratch lines.

What to do

  1. Rinse the clear coat and remove loose sanding residue.
  2. Check whether the 1000 grit pattern is even.
  3. Use 1200 grit to start refining the 1000 grit marks.
  4. Move to 1500, then 2000, then 3000 grit.
  5. Rinse the surface and sheet before each grit change.
  6. Keep pressure light and avoid edges.
  7. Polish only after the 3000 grit haze is even.
Avoid: Do not polish directly over uneven 1000 grit scratches. The surface can stay hazy after polishing.
