Problem

Uneven finish from sanding pressure

The surface looks uneven after sanding.

Answer

Use lighter, even pressure and a sanding block on flat areas. Return one grit coarser when pressure marks remain.

Why it happens
Uneven hand pressure can create low spots, swirl marks, or inconsistent scratch depth.
Recommended grit
Return to the grit that levels the uneven area, then step finer again.
Wet or dry
Dry for shaping and prep; wet for fine finishing stages.
Success check
The surface has an even scratch pattern and no pressure marks.

What to do

  1. Stop and inspect the uneven area.
  2. Use a sanding block on flat surfaces.
  3. Sand with light, even pressure.
  4. Restart the grit sequence from the last grit that corrects the issue.
Avoid: Do not press harder on low spots to make them disappear.
