Sandpaper curls during wet sanding

The sheet curls or becomes harder to handle during wet sanding.

Answer

Cut a smaller piece and use a backing pad. Keep the sheet wet and pressure even.

Why it happens
Water, handling, and sheet size can make the paper curl during use.
Recommended grit
Use the selected wet-sanding grit and support the sheet with a backing pad.
Wet or dry
Wet.
Success check
The sheet stays controlled and the surface pattern remains even.

What to do

  1. Cut the sheet to a smaller, manageable size.
  2. Wet the surface and sheet evenly.
  3. Use a sanding block or backing pad.
  4. Rinse and reposition the sheet when it starts to curl.
Avoid: Do not force a curled sheet with uneven fingertip pressure.
