Problem

What grit removes crayon from wood?

Crayon marks can smear or stay in the wood grain after wiping.

Answer

For crayon on wood, remove excess first, then use 220. Use 180 only for stubborn spots.

Why it happens
Crayon is waxy, so sanding too aggressively can spread residue or create visible low spots.
Recommended grit
Use 220 for light marks. Use 180 first only when the mark is deeper, then finish with 220.
Wet or dry
Dry.
Success check
The mark is removed and the surrounding wood has an even scratch pattern.

What to do

  1. Scrape or wipe off excess crayon first.
  2. Sand lightly with 220 grit.
  3. Use 180 only on stubborn spots.
  4. Finish the area again with 220 and clean dust.
Avoid: Do not grind waxy crayon residue deep into the grain.
