Can sandpaper remove porcelain tile scratches?

Porcelain tile can become dull or scratched if sanded incorrectly.

Answer

Do not sand polished porcelain tile faces for normal scratch removal. Test 1000 or finer wet only in a hidden spot.

Why it happens
The glazed or polished surface can be harder to blend than the scratch itself.
Recommended grit
Avoid sanding polished porcelain. For minor edge work only, test 1000 or finer wet.
Wet or dry
Wet.
Success check
The test area does not show a new dull patch.

What to do

  1. Clean the tile first.
  2. Avoid sanding the visible polished face.
  3. Test 1000 or finer wet in a hidden area if repair is needed.
  4. Stop if the surface turns dull.
Avoid: Do not use coarse grit on porcelain tile faces.
