Problem

Plastic is hazy after wet sanding

Plastic looks cloudy or hazy after wet sanding.

Answer

Plastic haze is usually the sanding pattern showing. Refine with 1000, 1500, 2000, and 3000 grit using light pressure, then polish only after the haze is even.

Why it happens
Plastic scratches easily and can stay cloudy when the grit sequence is skipped, pressure is too heavy, or residue is not rinsed away.
Recommended grit
Use 1000, 1500, 2000, and 3000 for haze refinement. Use 800 only when deeper marks remain.
Wet or dry
Use wet sanding with clean water on plastic when the item can safely be rinsed. Keep pressure light to reduce heat and gouging.
Success check
The plastic has an even fine haze with no deeper scratch lines before polishing.

What to do

  1. Clean the plastic before sanding again.
  2. Check whether the haze is even or has deeper scratch lines.
  3. Use 1000 grit to refine visible sanding marks.
  4. Move to 1500, 2000, and 3000 grit in order.
  5. Rinse the surface and sheet before each grit change.
  6. Use light pressure and avoid heat buildup.
  7. Polish only after the final haze is even.
Avoid: Do not press hard on plastic. Heat can smear, gouge, or distort the surface.
